I've been using Photoshop Elements for almost two years now. During that time, I've focused primarily on learning how to tweak exposure, etc, on my photos and on learning how to use artistic effects to transform some photos into digital art pieces. I've been wanting to delve into using Photoshop layers to combine multiple images. Some recent posts by ombra, rottlady and A. Mac encouraged me to give it a try.
For better or worse, here are some of my results along with the original images. These were all created by copying a second image on top of a background layer. The transparency of the top layer was then set so that some of the background shows through. Various effects were applied to the individual layers and to the combined image.

1. This is just a lampshade detail. I liked the lines and the light. I decided to use it as a background layer.

2. A sunflower at Bok Tower Garden. Not the best exposure but fine to use for this art piece.

3. The combined image.

4. I liked this picture looking out through the window. I thought maybe I could create kind of a dreamy piece by layering something behind it.

5. Orange trees on the Pinewood Estate at Bok Tower Garden. I decided to use this as the layer behind the window.

6. The result. It is pretty much what I wanted to achieve with this combined image.

7. I wanted to play with creating an abstract collage. I chose this as the background layer.

8. And this to layer on top.

9. The first result.

10. A different result.
